Tudou’s Video Sharing Still Lucrative to the Tune of $57 Million
Someone poked a bit of fun at a phrase I used in the description to a podcast I posted earlier today, in which I called online video ’still lucrative for a lucky few.’ One of those lucky few today is a Chinese embedded video site called Todou. They’ve just announced the raising of their Series D funding, and a particularly lucrative round, coming to $57 million. That puts their total funding to around $85 million over the last three years.
Tudou is one of the most popular video sites in China today, claiming around 45 million monthly uniques. Just like most other high profile video sharing site, they’ve received their fair share of grief from various countries unhappy with the ’smut’ they may be purveying at times. Last month, according to NewTeeVee, amongst other sources, they recieved a shutdown warning from the Chinese government regarding porn and other objectionable content.
This funding round comes from IDG Technology Venture Investment, Granite Global Ventures, General Catalyst Partners, Capital today, Jafco Asia, KTB Ventures and JAIC.
