Virgin Media CEO Touts High Society Ideal For The Web

virginmedia

Are you a proponent of Net Neutrality? If so, the newly ordained CEO of Virgin Media hates you. Well, okay, that’s a lie. What Mr Neil Berkett has really said, according to enigmax at TorrentFreak, referencing James Walsh at Digital Spy and an interview conducted by the Royal Television Society, is that the cause for indiscriminate equality on the Web when it comes to traffic prioritization managed through tariffs and things is “a load of bollocks.”berkett

And it’s not just hot air that he’s venting. He’s already “doing deals to deliver some people’s content faster than others,” as is willing to do the same for you if you’re willing to pony up a few extra coins to send your bits out to an online audience. What makes Berkett’s words particularly poignant is that the man has only been a board member at Virgin Media for a few days, and is already getting vocal about sticking content owners and providers with higher bills for increased delivery speeds than more ordinary folk will see when restricted from the express lane. As Berkett refers to non-premium subscribers, commoners will be relegated to “bus lanes.” Ouch.

If you’ve been keeping an ear to the ground about the business of Net Neutrality concerning ISPs, you might know that this is not the first time Virgin Media has tossed bricks at the concept of free play when it comes to digital transfers online. The company, one of the largest service providers in the UK, was previously reported by The Telegraph, among other media outlets, to have taken up a fight with the peer-to-peer crowd.
