Widgetbuck’s Makes comScore’s List, Launches Hybrid Widget
Widgetbucks has spent the past few months growing its widget ad network, signing new partners, delving into behavioral advertising, and creating its YieldSense program which offers a useful program for determining the optimal solution for your ad widget.
All of the company’s work is paying off, as Widgetbucks is the first devoted widget ad network to make it onto comScore’s Ad Network report. Widgetbucks is ranked number 33, but it’s a positive sign for the industry to see a widget ad network make the list. That means that Widgetbucks still has some work to do, though, if it wants to top the list.
So what’s the plan? A hybrid widget model that pays CPM and CPC options, for starters. The benefit of this is that brands and publishers doesn’t have to worry about making a decision based on one payout option or another, if it’s better to give the option of both. It’s an encouraging move for publishers, and an attitude of inclusive experimentation that we’re seeing across other targeted ad networks, such as AdBrite, as well.
More to that end, Widgetbucks is offering an API for standalone ad networks, and custom skinning options as well. The first skin options will be topic-related, for things like sports, fashion and electronics. Though AdBrite is taking the open platform approach to spurring innovation on the targeted ad front, Widgetbuck’s API option may be viable for those that would like more autonomy, though I’m anxious to see the type of research and future executions we see from both companies as a result.
